When you know you’re not lean

November 26th, 2008 · No Comments

Signs your organization is not lean:

  1. When you can’t find things because there is too many things, you are definetly not lean.
  2. When you can’t get an answer to the question nearly instantly, you are definetly not lean.
  3. When each part of the company points fingers at the other, you’re probably not lean.
  4. When you refer to your people as bodies, resources or assets; When you have to babysit them, you are not even capable of becoming lean.
  5. When you cannot plan your day because of surprises, you are very likely not lean.
  6. If you think you are too lean to improve, you have not yet started trimming the fat.
  7. When the words like verify, inspect, rework, double-check, safety net are a part of your vacabulary, you have very long ways to go.
  8. When you think your business is unique or you say that you have always done it that way, you are definetly nowhere near lean.
  9. When your goal is to cut costs, you are not lean.
  10. When you use private jet to go beg for money, you are not just not lean, you are arrogant snub, who should never be allowed to do anything but manual labor from that day forward.

If your organization is not lean, it is not alone. You can change, you just need to look square in to the face of the fact that the wolf is coming and he likes the fat ones. Repeat it daily, like a mantra and go do something about it. But, please, for Pete’s Sake, have a plan, don’t just go trimming the muscle while you leave the fat behind. Call me to put an action plan together. There will be no fee, as usual, unless you succeed.
