Whenever I discuss it with the students, most of them say that they should focus on their weaknesses. Which goes against the clearly documented findings of great books like “Discover your strengths”.
Our educational model must change. We must develop people’s strengths. I used to be horrible at public speaking, getting D’s in my speech classes. I did not overcome this problem through any activities designed to fight the problem. Instead I continued to study business, an area that fascinated me, soon I learned things that others wanted to know. Now I earn my living by speaking publicly 30-40 hours a week.
It is a powerful phenomenon, and we must change the way we educate to take this in to the account.
