The other day Barbara Elliott Eaves spent some time with me working on my business pitch. Her entire business can be summed up with her slogan: Be Relevant. She does a great job of helping people be just that.
In order to develop a short explanation of one’s relevancy she suggests following the following approach:
1. Describe the issue or the problem and how you noticed it (Help them identify with the pain/passion)
2. Describe the solution and what’s special about it (Tell your story to make it relevant)
3. Describe the value proposition (using analogy)
So for me the final product looked something like this:
As an entrepreneur and, later, as a business professor, I realized that business education does not really prepare a person to start a business. My first post MBA business for example, was a disaster in every dimension and unfortunately my experience is far from unique.
After many years of seeking the secret of effectively teaching business, I realized that business must be coached, not taught.
So, in working with an exceptional team, I am developing a comprehensive coaching program that guides a person step by step in growing a backbone, becoming a freelance professional, a small business manager, an entrepreneur and eventually an investor.
According to Entrepreneur.com over 50% of Americans would like to own their own business. Why not help them explore this option by partnering with FutureWorks, The School Factory, Inc and Executive Advisor, LLC to provide such an opportunity for a fraction of the cost of learning through business failure, or the economic impact of not engaging in business at all.
