The world is changing ever more rapidly. With 3D Printers and 3D Scanners for under a $1000 available from http://www.makerbot.com/ and MIT open sourcing their entire curriculum at http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/web/courses/courses/index.htm there is no denying that the world is changing at an ever increasing pace.
With the ability to ship designs via Internet rather then product via mail the entire manufacturing, distribution, warehousing and shipping industries are going to have to reinvent themselves.
With entire curricula of a prestigious university becoming a publicly available at no charge, with Wikipedia clearly blowing past any printed encyclopedia in quality and quantity of content, the entire approach to education has to be revisited.
Yet, fundamentally the human thinking processes are very slow to adopt. So, as I yammer with my coworkers and use Google Wave to share Prezis and interactive maps to discuss future locations of maker spaces and community working environments that would have been unthinkable even a decade ago like Bucketworks, I am one more time reminded of the need to get really good at the basics: clarity of communication, task management, integrity, competence, confidence and courage that we all need in our lives.
