If you’re not sure how to start a business, you probably are not ready

I am guilty of it, I earn much of my living by teaching and coaching people who would like some day to own a business. I am not saying that they don’t need coaching or teaching, precisely the opposite, they need lots of it, but there is a bigger problem: If you’re not sure how to start a business, you probably are not ready!

The best business experiences I have had felt very natural, I just fell in to them, because I was the right person with the right skills. The ones that failed miserably were not a good fit, no matter the training.

So you’d like to start a business and not sure how? Find a similar business and manage it for a few years. If you can’t do that, you definitely should not start one from scratch. This simply means you lack the background and experience that cannot be taught in a classroom setting. It’s not a bad thing, just a fact and you are better off living with that fact rather than trying to prove it wrong nine times out of ten.

But what about people who were not afraid? What about those who took a chance and won? Usually, you will see that they had a few cards up their sleeve and the experience in playing the game that came from the time prior to their perceived gamble.
